Quartz Countertops Cost
Quartz countertops are elegant, gorgeous and long-lasting, but they are not cheap! Prices for quartz countertops range from about $100 to $200 per square foot in Abbotsford for the materials and professional installation. When you get quartz countertop estimates, where they fall in that price spectrum will be decided by several factors that we discuss here.
Quartz Countertop Cost Factors
The factors that affect the cost of quartz countertops are the grade of the material, the complexity of the job, who does the work and where you get the countertops. Let’s explore each of these.
The grade of the quartz: Quartz is an engineered material, and it comes in a variety of styles and qualities. While the vendor you work with may use different terms, the grades of quartz countertops are closeout/clearance, standard, premium and designer.
Standard grades of quartz can be somewhat plain, and that might be just what you’re looking for to blend with your kitchen décor and design. Colors are typically earth tones. When standard grade quartz countertops are discontinued, they become clearance/closeout counters.
Premium and designer grades of quartz tend to be richer in color and in the design formulated in the countertops. They are often custom made for each job, and that can raise the price considerably.
The job complexity: A single slab of quartz, no seams and no corners, will be quite easy to install. A wrap-around countertop with multiple seams, cut-outs for a main sink and a prep sink plus a designer edge will be costly. Think about seams, corners and the edge when considering how time-consuming installation will be.
The installer of the countertops: Depending on the other factors, professional installation will account for 20% to 50% of the total cost, though 30% is average. You can save the entire cost if you do the work yourself. However, because these are expensive countertops and errors in installation are costly, DIY quartz countertop installation is only recommended for those with excellent skills and experience.
Make sure that the person you hire for the work is licensed and insured, so that if material is damaged during installation or the countertops are improperly installed, you’re covered.
Where you get the quartz: Home improvement stores tend to sell standard to mid-grade quartz. A local countertop company will have mid-grade to premium material. Most designers use premium quartz in their projects.
